Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Hellenic *-ďďō, from a stem ending in the consonants *g, *gʷ, or *d + the Proto-Indo-European present suffixes *-yeti (transitive imperfective suffix) or *-yéti (intransitive imperfective suffix).
