Etymology[edit]
Derived from Sanskrit हीन (hīna, “abandoned; devoid of”), accompanying a change in the word class, from an adjective to a suffix for expressing the lack of something. This word has been semi-nativised and is sometimes used in non-Sanskrit derived words, but not typically.
