Etymology[edit]
From 라는 (-raneun, declarative, noun-modifying quotative suffix), originally a poorly or machine-translated rendition of the Japanese 連体形 (rentaikei, “attributive form”) of verbs due to their double functionality as attributive and terminal forms.
