Etymology[edit]
First attested as aeserberch in 1395. Compound derived from either the otherwise unknown toponym Aast (potentially derived from Limburgish aost (“branch, maple, Acer sp.”)) or from the name of a nearby field and berg (“hill, elevated place”).
