Borrowed from Dhivehi އައްޑޫ (aḍḍū), from earlier 𑤀𑤘𑤾𑤘𑤳𑤩𑤳 (aḍḍuvu); equivalent to އަށް (aṣ̊, eight) +‎ ދޫ (, island).
