From Late Latin Ermefredi, genitive of the personal name Ermefredus, from a Suevic or Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Ermunafriþuz, from Proto-Germanic *ermunaz (“strong; whole”) and *friþuz (“peace”).[1]
