Alternative forms[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Russian, as evidenced by the spelling of the word reflecting the transliteration of Russian Азербайджан (Azerbajdžan); the Russian ж (ž) is transliterated as ⟨zj⟩ in Swedish. From Persian آذربایجان (Âzarbâyjân), ultimately from Ancient Greek Ἀτροπατηνή (Atropatēnḗ). See English Azerbaijan for more.
