- (Schiedam) Attested as Bijdorp in 1936. Derived from a compound of bij (“near, close to”) and dorp (“village, settlement”). Likely to have originally been the name of a house.
- (Voorschoten) Compound of Bije (“a surname”) and dorp (“village”). Named after an estate built by nobleman Johan de Bije (1649-1715).
