Etymology[edit]

A calque of Latin Mons or Clivus Capitolīnus, from Capitolium (Capitoline Hill) + -inus (-ine: forming adjectives), from the oblique stem of caput (head) + (forming nouns) or -ōlus (-ole: forming diminutives) + -ium (forming location names).
