Note[edit]

Category:Old Prussian lemmas contains in large parts terms in Neo-Prussian conlang. Features include:

  • use of z where s would be expected (in cz as in czilix it's fine)
  • macra (though some are genuine)
  • giving genders (e.g. Elbing German-Prussian Vocabulary or sources like Nesselmann usually don't give any genders)

I think giving genders could be okay when it can be established based on agreement with adjectives and pronouns, etc. I don't know how "ſtas Tāws" (the father) could be anything other than masculine. Nesselmann isn't the only authority on Old Prussian, and we don't have to omit inferable information just because he did.
Agreed on the other points. 70.172.194.25 08:43, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
"when it can be established based on agreement" (cp. stas) sounds fine, but that's not working with the ~800 terms in the Vocabulary. --10:23, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
So, for example, you don't think we can infer that nouns ending in -an in the nominative singular are neuter? Are you aware of any exceptions? (Legitimate question, I'm not super familiar with Prussian grammar. I'm aware that -an also occurs as an accusative ending for non-neuter nouns.) Trautmann and Mažiulis seem to be fine with calling balgnan neuter, even though it's only attested in the Elbing vocabulary. I don't know why we would have to stick to Nesselmann's ambivalence. 70.172.194.25 10:44, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
