  قال مانى وذلك الكون النير مجاور للكون المظلم لا حاجز بينهما والنور يلقي الظلمة بصفحته ولا نهاية للنور من علوه ولا يمنته ولا يسرته ولا نهاية للظلمة في السفل ولا في اليمنة واليسرة قال مانى ومن تلك الأرض المظلمة كان الشيطان لا أن يكون أزليا بعينه ولكن جواهره كانت في عناصره أزلية فاجتمعت تلك الجواهر من عناصره فتكونت شيطانا رأسه كرأس أسد وبدنه كبدن تنين وجناحه كجناح طاير وذنبه كذنب حوت وأرجله أربع كارجل الدواب فلما تكون هذا الشيطان من الظلمة وتسمى إبليس القديم

  Mani said, "The World of Light borders the World of Darkness. There is no barrier between the two, and the light meets the darkness along an edge. The light has no end, neither up, nor right, nor left, and the darkness has no end, neither down, nor right, nor left. From the Realm of Darkness came the Devil. He himself, though, is not primordial. Rather, his essences were eternally inside its hypostases. His essences came together out of the hypostases and formed into a demon. His head was like a lion's, his body like a dragon's, his wings like a bird's, his tail like a whale's, and his legs four like a beast's. This demon was formed in the Darkness, and he called himself the Primordial Devil."
