English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From a Basque source. The current toponym appears to refer to Saint Modesta (died c. 680), but it is unclear how the Basque toponym changed into the name of the saint.

The element east was added to distinguish the settlement from West St. Modeste.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • Hyphenation: East St. Mod‧este
