From Ancient Greek Ἑκατόμπεδον (Hekatómpedon), from ἑκατόν (hekatón) +‎ ποδός (podós), literally hundred-footer.

  1. (historical) The Temple of Athena upon the Acropolis, formerly in the location of the present Parthenon.
  2. (historical) The specific chamber within the Parthenon which contained the cultic chryselephantine statue of Athena.
