      The occurrence of filariasis in the Pescadores was reported by GOTO & HARAYO (1919). TANAKA (1937) examined 229 Chinese dockyard laborers at Makung Navy Base, and found 27 (16.2%) to be positive for the microfilariae of W. bancrofti. YOKOGAWA et al. (1939) conducted a survey of filariasis in four villages, and found 126 positive cases (7.8 %) out of a total of 1,608 persons examined ; the positive rates according to the villages were 10.8 % in Huhsi, 1 1 .5 % in Kongti, 7.4 % in Watung, and 2.3 % in Hokaito.
      [] DEMOS et al. (1954) conducted a survey of Huhsi Village, and found 17 (17.7%) of 96 persons examined to be positive for the microfilariae of W. bancrofti.
