  1. Acronym of US Navy Board of Inspection and Survey. It is an inspection that occurs on ships and submarines every 5 years and prior to commissioning. Known throughout the Navy for its gruelling intensity and difficulty to pass, it has become something to be feared by sailors and officers alike.
