From jálu (“to plunge”) + omi (“water, river”), literally “To plunge into the water”
- This refers to the fact that most of the causalities in the battle came from Ìlọrin soldiers drowning in the Ọ̀tìn river

- (historical) A major battle of the Kiriji War that took place on November 1, 1878 in the town of Ìkìrun. It was one of the bloodiest battles in the war.
