     Về sau vào thập-ngũ thế-kỷ, ông Kha luân Bố ( Christophe Colomb ) dùng địa-bàn chỉ nam ( boussole ) định đi qua Đại-tây-dương sang Ấn-độ, rồi tìm thấy châu A-mỹ-lị-gia ( Amé-rique ) ; đến năm 1479, người Bồ-đào-nha ( Portugal ) tên là Vasco de Gama đi vòng qua Hảo-vọng-giác ( Cap de Bonne Espérance ) sang Ấn-độ-dương vào đất Ấn-độ. Năm 1521 lại có người Bồ-đào-nha tên là Magellan đi qua Ấn-độ-dương sang Thái-bình-dương vào đất Phi-luật-tân ( Philippines ).

     Later in the 16th century, Christopher Columbus used a compass intending to cross the Atlantic Ocean to India, then discovered America; in 1479, the Portuguese Vasco de Gama passed the Cape of Good Hope into the Indian Ocean en route to India. In 1521, another Portuguese named Magellan crossed the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean en route to the Philippines.
