Spanish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Latin Mārtīnus (literally of or like Mars), from Mārs (genitive singular Mārtis) + -īnus. Probably derived from Old French Martin, after Martin of Tours, due to the lack of expected final -o.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /maɾˈtin/ [maɾˈt̪ĩn]
  • Rhymes: -in
  • Syllabification: Mar‧tín

Proper noun[edit]
