The pronunciation is much closer to kŕpyā than kŕpayā. See, the first syllable here is 'kŕp' (vocallic r). Some variant pronunciations may define the first syllable to be 'kŕ' with the other syllables being 'pa' and 'yā'. DerekWinters (talk) 11:17, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Current failed test cases

@DerekWinters Hi, do you agree with current failed test cases? Some were discussed, like inserting an apostrophe, फ़ावड़ा seems no different from करना (same rule). With anusvār we could follow Wiktionary:Hindi_transliteration#Nasalisation. BTW, symbols for "candra e" are missing - ऍ and diacritic. --Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 04:34, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

फ़िल्म should be film. It seems that all words that end in an 'lma' become 'lm'. In the middle of words however it remains 'lma'. The same goes for words ending in 'lva' and 'lna'. Don't follow Wiktionary:Hindi_transliteration#Nasalisation, because the majority of words aren't nasalized, and those that are can be hard-transliterated. Testcases?

@Wyang I just noticed that you changed some of the translits I put in earlier, through Shabdkosh's information. Shabdkosh does not actually use schwa-dropping in its transliterations, so it is not accurate for pronunciations. A better source would be http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/caturvedi/, which is an actual dictionary with very good pronunciation information (including nasalization and gemination). —Aryamanarora ^{(मुझसे बात करो)} 12:33, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

अंटार्कटिका

@Aryamanarora Hi, if the test case for अंटार्कटिका (aṇṭārkaṭikā) is justified (transliteration "aṇṭārkṭikā"), which rule should apply here? In my opinion the transliteration could be left as "aṇṭārkaṭikā", "a" would be light but in the pronunciation section phonetic respelling "अंटार्क्टिका" (with a virama) could be used - aṇṭārkṭikā, if shwa may be dropped in such positions. --Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 10:41, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Good point – I doubt many Hindi speakers would be able to pronounce the consonant cluster "rkṭ" without inserting a schwa. —Aryamanarora ^{(मुझसे बात करो)} 13:45, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

As a loanword, अंटार्कटिका would be pronounced by educated people without the schwa. However, if we were to substitute other letters for the consonants, such as perhaps अंतार्गतिका, we would probably pronounce it antārgatikā.
