Proto-Brythonic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Celtic *-yūs, accusative *-(y)osam, with secondary restoration of the -h- < -s- by analogy with the superlative and equative. The stress before -h- probably allowed the subsequent development to -x- before a vowel.

Pronunciation[edit]

Adjective[edit]

  1. Forms the comparative of an adjective.

Descendants[edit]

  • Breton: -oc'h
  • Middle Welsh: -ach
