Proto-Finnic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

*johtadak +‎ *-ttadak

Verb[edit]

*johtattadak (stem *johtatta-)

  1. to lead, conduct, guide
  2. to bring to mind

Reconstruction notes[edit]

  • While *ht was not yet gradable in Proto-Finnic, it is in almost all descendants. As a result, basically each descendants exhibit the weak grade, which is regular for this word.
  • In Eastern Finnish, Karelian and Ludic, the form descends from the form *joohtatta-. The reason for this is not known; compare however Kukkuzi jouhtua (from *jouhtu-?, variant of *johtudak).
