Etymology[edit]

From earlier *kaća (related to Northern Sami geahčči (point)). Possibly an early loan from Indo-European language, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eḱ-. Has also been compared with Hungarian hegy (mountain), although this relation is unlikely.
