Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *pórmos, from *per- (“to cross over”). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *pormъ (e.g. Russian паро́м (paróm, “small boat, ferry”)), Lithuanian paramà (“support, assistance”).
