From Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáwxšati, from Proto-Indo-European *déwk-s-eti, from *dewk- (to pull, draw) +‎ *-seti (primary verb suffix). Meaning influenced by Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáwgdʰi (to milk).
