Proto-Omotic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Immediately, derived from root *Hāčʼ- with nominal-forming suffix *-í (with the medial consonant regularly geminated). Ultimately uncertain. Probably not Afroasiatic in origin; cannot be derived from Proto-Afroasiatic *akʷ’- due to initial in *H- (whose expected Proto-Afroasiatic source would be ) and final in *-čʼ (the expected reflex of *kʷ’ would be *k’ in Omotic) nor does it bear resemblance to other Afroasiatic words.

Noun[edit]

*Hāččʼí
