Etymology[edit]

From *bez- +‎ *čędo +‎ *-ьnъ, possibly calque of Ancient Greek ἄτεκνος (áteknos), from ἀ- (a-, without) + τέκνον (téknon, child), in the sense of "not bearing fruit".
