Etymology[edit]
Unknown, conceivably from the stem of *gadur (“together”),[1] with the rare suffix as in *bōsm, *butm, *āþm.
The semantic and formal match of African Arabic قَيْطُون (qayṭūn) must be a coincidence.[2]
