Perhaps equivalent to *ɛ́- (nominalizing prefix) +‎ *kʊ̃̀ (to growl). Compare with Khana kuè, Igbo agụ, Westermann proposes the root ultimately comes from Proto-Atlantic-Congo *-gui-.
