Etymology[edit]

As according to Orel (2003, page 90), probably a feminine derivation from PIE *poh₂imen- > *poh₂imnih₂, early Germanic *poimen- > *poimnī (oblique *poimunj-), which when regularized to *poimj- would explain the nasal-less form in Old Norse and Old Saxon, < *faimijǭ.
