Proto-Indo-European *kelh₁- ‎(“to call, shout”)[edit]

Should this tie back to Proto-Indo-European *kelh₁- ‎(“to call, shout”) ? — This unsigned comment was added by 71.9.236.229 (talk).

According to Grimm's Law it should not Leasnam (talk) 13:52, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

The reference to Grimm's Law is not specific. If voiceless plosive /k/ assumes migration to x, what about the following?

From Proto-Indo-European *kelh₁- ‎(“to call, shout”). Cognate with Latin clāmō, clārus, classis, concilium, Ancient Greek καλέω ‎(kaléō). calō ‎(present infinitive calāre, perfect active calāvī, supine calātum); first conjugation I call, announce solemnly, call out.

Or, *kelh₁- would need a prior /g/; yet *kelh₁- exists in PIE; and, calō is a Latin product of it

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish. The PGmc derivatives of PIE *kelh₁- are *halōną, *hulōną, and *hlōaną. Seems pretty cut and dry. Leasnam (talk) 05:33, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

It is a question of the PIE connection to "call", of which kalzōną does not appear strong — This unsigned comment was added by 71.9.236.229 (talk).
