@Leasnam, Rua: How did the k manage to avoid Grimm's law? —Mahāgaja · talk 15:51, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Kroonen says:
A formation *taikjan- created to the geminated root *taikk- as found in *taikna- and the iterative *taik/gōn-. Perhaps, the formation can be analysed as continuing a medial causative, quasi-PIE *doiḱ-nH-éie- "to make oneself point out".
It's implied that he considers Kluge's law to have applied here. —Rua (mew) 16:04, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh, that's interesting. I wonder if *tēkaną (touch, take) can be derived from *deḱ- (take) by the same token. Our etymology currently says the former is from a *deh₁g-, but that's not even a possible PIE root with two plain voiced stops. —Mahāgaja · talk 16:38, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
