@Leasnam: are you sure about the PIE etymon? How does the -ǵʰ- of the root become a -gʷʰ-? --Barytonesis (talk) 22:14, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
- I'd question the etymology for other reasons as well. How would an -n- suddenly turn to -j-? —CodeCat 23:39, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

- @Leasnam: unfortunately I know next to nothing about Germanic. Here's how I see it: both the verb and the noun wedge (whose etymologies should probably be split) ultimately come from *weǵʰ-, but through different paths.
- *woǵʰ-éye-ti > *wagjaną > wedge (the verb)
- ?? (*woǵʰyos maybe?) > *wagjaz > wedge (the noun) --Barytonesis (talk) 12:00, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
