Really a proto term?[edit]

@Chuterix, given the uniformity of the Ryukyuan terms, and the Japanese etymology given by various references indicating a native compound, might this be a borrowing rather than an inheritance? Or would you posit a compound derivation at the proto level? ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 18:56, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

This compound must have already existed at the proto level. Regular sound changes (raising of e > i or ï) and tonal correspondances (lengthening of Shuri first mora) make this possible for this word to go back to Proto-Japonic. どういたしまして。 Chuterix (talk) 19:09, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
