Avestan[edit]

Vasmer says that Hungarian, Khanty and Finnish came from Avestan. Actually i wanted to add to Proto-Finno-Ugric but Hungarian ház, Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. links to Proto-Uralic with name Proto-Finno-Ugric. —Игорь Тълкачь 12:45, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

We do not distinguish Proto-Uralic and Proto-Finno-Ugric, other than as labels; the two are effectively identical.
The IE parallel is well established, but derivation from Avestan specifically is clearly nonsensical. I wonder if Vasmer just uses it as a stand-in for Proto-Iranian or Proto-Indo-Iranian. --Tropylium (talk) 23:25, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
