Rhymes:Bulgarian
Rhyming rules[edit]
As in English, two Bulgarian words rhyme if they're pronounced identically starting with the last stressed vowel (most Bulgarian words have only one such vowel). Thus, in Wiktionary, Bulgarian rhymes are organized according to their pronunciation as rendered using the International Phonetic Alphabet.
Examples:
- IPA(key): [-asɐ]: ма́са (mása), тера́са (terása)
- IPA(key): [-ɔtkɐ]: ко́тка (kótka), во́дка (vódka) (note that the /d/ in the latter gets devoiced to /t/ due to assimilation rules)
If the stressed vowel is word-final - e.g. вода́ (vodá) - the rhyme must contain the preceding consonant, in his example /d/. The rare case when the word-final stressed vowel is preceded by another vowel - e.g. аншоа́ (anšoá) - is the only instance where a rhyme contains no consonants.
Organization of rhymes[edit]
- All per-rhyme pages can be found under Category:Bulgarian rhymes.
- All words that rhyme, organized into dynamic sub-categories according to syllable count, can be found under Category:Rhymes:Bulgarian.
Adding new rhymes[edit]
There are two main ways to add rhymes to entries:
- directly in the Pronunciation section of an entry, using the
{{rhymes}}template. Make sure you provide the syllable count, and create any red-link categories generated by that template using{{auto cat}}. - if a dedicated rhyme page exists for the rhyme, you can use the "Add new rhyme" button under the correct section (by syllable count). If the page doesn't exist, you could create it using any existing rhyme page as an example.
In the future, Module:bg-pronunciation will likely automate the determination and inclusion of rhymes in the Pronunciation section of Bulgarian entries. As of this writing (Sept. 2023), we don't yet have that capability.
