- (De Fryske Marren) First attested as toe delffster nijegae in 1507. Calque of West Frisian Reahel, a compound of read (“red”) and hel (“slope, incline”), here referring to a turf pile.
- (Achtkarspelen) First attested as Rohel in 1632. Calque of West Frisian Reahel, which in turn is potentially derived from a compound of read (“red”) and hel (“slope, incline”) or hol (“low-lying swampland”).
