- (Drenthe) First attested as tho Schelyckforst in 1538. Compound of either Middle Dutch scheluwe (“crooked”) or schelfe (“rush, Schoenoplectus sp.”) and horst (“overgrown elevated place”).
- (Overijssel) First attested as ter schelfhorst in 1457. Compound of either Middle Dutch scheluwe (“crooked”) or schelfe (“rush, Schoenoplectus sp.”) and horst (“overgrown elevated place”).
