Is Ång just a missread Äng?[edit]

The word äng in 1777 typography.

Regarding the etymology of Ångström.

I can find no instances where the Swedish word äng is spelled ång. I have looked through Litteraturbanken.se and searched in the National Library's Newspaper Archive, but all results I found where just misinterpretations by the machine.

However – Several of these instances used an older typography of the letter Ää; where instead of an umlaut, they use the letter Ee ontop.

In light of the apparent complete lack of ång=äng – is it not more likely that (just like the machine-reading) the Åå in Ång- was just a misread, misunderstood, or simply stylistic choices, of the letter Ää?

Or is it possible that ång does not mean "meadow", but instead refer to "breath"? Christoffre (talk) 13:19, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm... After some additional research (Googling) it seems like it comes from Ånge where his father grew up.

Not the best source; but the best explanation I've found, including äng ("meadow") + ström ("stream"). Christoffre (talk) 18:14, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
