Pronunciation[edit]

At the pronunciations of the word genos in different kinds of Greek, we are referred to the IPA article on Wikipedia, but I can't find the special symbol which is in the Koine and Byzantine Greek there. How do you pronounce that? Mallerd 14:31, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a voiced velar fricative. It is not native to English. It can be found in Arabic (غ /gh/), Azeri (/ğ/), Dutch (/g/, /gh/), Gaelic (/dh/ or /gh/ neighboring /a/, /o/ or /u/), Lithuanian (/h/), Castilian Spanish (/g/ after a vowel)...
Thanks :D Mallerd 14:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
