Passive form[edit]

@Rossyxan — @Sarri.greek has flagged this verb's passive as doubtful. Since there has been no reply and given the possibility of overlooking it (and I am about to create a new table) I am going to delete it, but will resurrect it if I'm wrong! — Saltmarsh. 06:23, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Well, @Saltmarsh, grammatically it is correct. It is interesting: some verbs for inflicting punishment have a middle sense:
* δέρνω δέρνομαι (e.g. when mourning). χτυπάω χτυπιέμαι (figuratively). αυτομαστιγώνομαι (μαστίγιο). τσιμπιέμαι (to see if I am awake, if all this is true). κουτουλάω κουτουλιέμαι (κουτουλιά headbutting).
With passive sense (I guess), for slapping: @DSMG:
* δίνω / τρώω: χαστούκι > χαστουκίζω-χαστουκίζομαι. σκαμπίλι >σκαμπιλίζω-σκαμπιλίζομαι. But neither DSMG[1] nor Babiniotis give a passive for σφαλιαρίζω < σφαλιάρα. There is also η ανάποδη but it has no verb.
And there is μπούφλα > μπουφλίζω, not in dictionaries yet. sarri.greek (talk) 07:16, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Saltmarsh, I'll reinstate it - it's certainly attested on the web:
Κλείνω τα μάτια μου τσιμπιέμαι , σφαλιαρίζομαι και τώρα θα ανοίξω τα μάτια μου και θα είμαι σπίτι.
Ρίχνω νερό στο πρόσωπό μου, κοιτάζομαι στον καθρέπτη, σφαλιαρίζομαι και λέω «μπες μέσα και διέλυσέ τους».
If people use it we should represent it on Wiktionary, even if some may consider it ungrammatical ( DSMG, Mpampi and Jiord don't show it).— Saltmarsh. 09:49, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you @Saltmarsh, I added some more words to this 'thesaurus'. There are more in the internet, especially at soccer/football sites. e.g. 'ζιντανιά' from w:Zinedine Zidane, etc.
PS «μπες μέσα και διέλυσέ[sic] τους» [for 'διάλυσέ τους]. sarri.greek (talk) 13:09, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
