Font error in the Uyghur Arabic spelling

[edit]

hello, Azeri Arabic spelling بیر (bir) and Uyghur Arabic spelling بىر (bir) are different. But in this page looks the same. --Oyunqi (talk) 14:39, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Azeri uses the Persian letter yeh. Persian yeh looks just like Arabic alif maksura, but they are not the same. So, what is the correct Uyghur spelling? Right now the Uyghur is using the Arabic letter called "alif maksura". If that is the wrong letter, then what is the correct one? The Arabic alif maksura is the one shown at w:Uyghur alphabets (present alphabet). Arabic alif maksura is also the same one that is used in the Uyghur Wikipedia: ug:w:ئۇيغۇر_مىللىتى —Stephen (Talk) 23:06, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hello Stephen، Thanks for your message. Two words here (Azeri with FARSI YEH and Uyghur with ALEF MAKSURA) are correct. But "Desktop view" two words look like بیر , I think there is an error with fonts. "Mobile view" all are correct.--Oyunqi (talk) 00:07, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oh, you mean the way they are displayed. It’s not a font error, but a matter of which font is used. Fonts intended only for Arabic do not permit the alif maksura to be used anywhere but at the end of a word, so it does not connect to the surrounding letters in Uyghur words. I don’t know which fonts are being specified for Uyghur...you should take this discussion to MediaWiki talk:Common.css. That’s where fonts are specified for different languages. —Stephen (Talk) 01:14, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
