@Per utramque cavernam I am not an expert on Russian, but I'm Polish. There are two options:

• From встать (vstatʹ) + -вать (-vatʹ). Cf. доставать (dostavatʹ) from достать (dostatʹ) + -вать (-vatʹ),
• From в- (v-) + ставать (stavatʹ) (Russian Wiktionary has an entry of it).

When it comes to decide between those two, I don't know. Same in Polish wstać, wstawać. Czech vstát, vstávat has no etymology; Belarussian устаць (ustacʹ), уставаць (ustavacʹ) and Ukrainian вставати (vstavaty), встати (vstaty) support my 2nd option. Wrzodek (talk) 23:39, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

@Wrzodek: I should have posted this on the talkpage of встать (vstatʹ). My question is specifically about the prefix used in that verb; в- (v-, “in”) doesn't make much sense, вс- (vs-, “up”) is much more convincing semantically. It's probably the same in Polish, Belarusian, etc. Per utramque cavernam 19:05, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
