pre-1918 etymologies rule[edit]

I noticed that my etymology addition was removed because "we don't include etymologies on pre-1918 spellings" Fair enough, my fault for not following the link to the page with new spelling to see that an etymology entry is already there.

I am curious why about this policy tho. If someone only looks up the old spelling (like me) they will not have access to this information.

Wiktionary policy is generally to treat alternative spellings as "lesser forms" of the main entries. Thus, any information beyond the bare minimum is deleted or moved to the "canon" form. Personally, I'm not a fan of this practice, but I seem to be in the minority here. Binarystep (talk) 13:58, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
