Unfortunately the PIE root *bʰeh₂g- "to distribute" (or alterantively *bʰag- with genuine PIE */a/ inside, as some reconstruct) that yielded Indo-Iranian bhag-/bhaj- did not have reflexes in Aremenian.. Beside bhakti, II root has a number of important derivations, most importantly the word for "god" भग (bhága) / 𐎲𐎥 (baga) which was borrowed in Proto-Slavic *bagu > Common Slavic *bogъ. I know Armenian did not keep the descendants. Just wanted to reconstruct the chain from Middle Persian baxt < ... < to PIE root *bʰeh₂g- along which Armenian has borrowed many important words, including բախտ (baxt), բաժ (baž), բաժակ (bažak), բաժանե (bažane), բաշխ (bašx), բագին (bagin) etc. Would you say this chain is correct: PIE *bʰeh₂g- > Avestan bag, baž "to distribute" (cognate to Sanskrit bhaj-) > Avestan baxta (past participle of the latter, cognate to Sanskrit bhaktá) > Middle Persian baxt? Seems OK, except that I'm not sure that Middle Persian baxtan "to distribute" is borrowed from Avestan p.p. baxta-, as opposed to being inherited. But let it be. --Ivan Štambuk 16:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
