Surface etymology[edit]

@Fenakhay: Would you please explain to me your deletion of the surface analysis? Afaic, WT:Etymology#Surface etymologies states that analysis of surface forms are of value, so my understanding is they might be included so long as it's emphasized that they are uncertain. — This unsigned comment was added by Assem Khidhr (talkcontribs).

@Assem Khidhr: Your surface etymology is wrong. The term is derived from Takrur (with a shift from r to n). — فين أخاي (تكلم معاي · ما ساهمت) 19:11, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Fenakhay: Umm, it seems like a valid theory too, but such kind of relation would need a reliable source to establish it as "the true etymology". Unless there's a reference for this, which I'd be happy to find, the section would be better having both surface analyeses included as hypotheses than empty or falsely bold. @Assem Khidhr: This isn't Wikipedia. If you have proof that your etymology is valid (which it is not phonologically-speaking), then add it to the etymology section. The majority of Black Saudi Arabians descend from the Fulani and Toucouleur people who inhabit the region of Takrur. — فين أخاي (تكلم معاي · ما ساهمت) 19:38, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Fenakhay: Please see WT:ETY#References, which is certainly a Wiktionary policy. The demographic distribution is a good start. I'll take a look at the Wiki article and find a reference as appropriate, thanks! Assem Khidhr (talk) 19:51, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
