little plural

- Little plural = paucal, 3 to 10 of something, some, a few
- Big plural = lots of something, many, (kinds of) something
- Compare with English, where the normal plural of fish is fish (I caught four fish), yet there is also fishes (all the fishes of the sea, that is, the kinds of fish).
- Arabic nouns are often like this, having a collective form (governs a singular verb), a singulative, a dual, a little plural, and a big plural. —Stephen (Talk) 20:49, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
- الضربات الصغيرة تقل شجرات كبيرة (Little strokes fell great oaks. شجرات = some trees, because nobody want to cut down many, many trees)

Etymologies
