This word was probably borrowed from Syriac. I don't have the source right now, but I'll get it if I remember. We already had it as a borrowing under sawm, which was changed by an anon, who gave the rationale that it can't be from Syriac because Arabic is not a descendant of Syriac... Seems dubious to me, unless the same theory would hold that the verb صَامَ (ṣāma) was borrowed together with it. --WikiTiki89 03:40, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
