where did the arabic word al kuhool come from? its a semi modern word introduced from English alcohol which in turn came from the original arabic word al ghoul. please see the discussion at alcohol.

- The English word alcohol did not always mean what it means today. Until the 18th century, it meant antimonium sive stibium. The word alcohol really is from Arabic from كحل. The modern meaning of alcohol, which the word only achieved less than 200 years ago, is equivalent to the Arabic غول (spirit) of the Qur’an, but its phonetic similarity to the English word is only coincidental. Alcohol, in its earlier meaning, derives from كحل, then the meaning changed to what it is now, and then it loaned back into Arabic as الكحول. —Stephen 15:32, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
