Lisān al-ʿArab definition[edit]
For future reference if an entry is created:
- ٭ وين ٭ الوَيْنُ : العَيْبُ ( عَنْ كُرَاعٍ ) وقَدْ حَكَى ابْنُ الأَعْرابِىِّ أَنهُ العِنَبُ الأَسْوَدُ ، فَهُوَ عَلَى قَوْلِ كُرَاعٍ عَرَضٌ ، وَعَلَى قَوْلِ ابْنِ الأَعْرابِىِّ جَوْهَرٌ .
- * وين * : Defect (about a limb/extremity) the Arab said that it is the black grape, and it is in the speech of a limb/extremity a misfortune, and in the speech of the Arab a precious jewel.

- Ibn al-Aʿrābī is a 9th-century philologist. ʿAraḍ here means something like "infliction with sickness or injury". And I would leave out jawhar. First, what sense did Ibn al-Aʿrābī use that word in? And second, few if any others seem to have heard of this sense. The Tāj al-ʿArūs also mentions Ibn al-Aʿrābī as the only witness for it. Kolmiel (talk) 14:44, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
