@Lbdñk I wasn't aware of the word, I just checked two Assamese dictionaries, found the terms পাহ (pah) and পাহ-ভাত (pah-bhat, “rice pudding, kheer, payasam”), here পাহ (pah) means "kheer" and ভাত (bhat)‍ means rice. Msasag (talk) 09:09, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

@Msasag: Thanks for having corroborated this! Now, is পাহ (pah) an independent word, or can it be found only in compounds like পাহ-ভাত (pah-bhat)? Also, are other compound words having this word attested?—Lbdñk (talk) 10:08, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

@Lbdñk The 1st dictionary I checked only has পাহ-ভাত (pah-bhat) for this meaning, another dictionary has both পাহ (pah) and পাহ-ভাত (pah-bhat) for the same meaning. Msasag (talk) 10:13, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

@Msasag, since you are knowledgeable about Eastern Indo-Aryan, I want to ask you if Sylheti ꠙꠣꠄꠡ (faeś) is borrowed from Bengali পায়েস (paeś) or a direct learned borrowing from Sanskrit पायस (pāyasa). @inqilābī Hard to say but seems like it was borrowed from Bengali. Sylheti speakers use ꠈꠤꠞ (kír) mostly, I don't remember if I heard faesh or fayosh, so it's hard to say if it's borrowed through Bengali or directly from Sanskrit. Msasag (talk) 03:45, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
